I whole heartedly agree with Kyle Jones’ reasoning, that bicycle helmets should be viewed as discretionary due to their inconvenience, ineffectiveness at preventing the most likely injuries and dehumanizing effect of people on bikes in the eyes of drivers.
The health benefits of using transit as exercise are tremendous and swapping cycling for driving reduces emissions.
So many policies and social norms are NOT data driven – bicycle helmet zealots are either misinformed of the limits or intent on victim blaming (it’s the cyclist fault they were so badly injured when the car “accidentally” hit them).
The only thing I object to in this article is that for some weird reason they chose to display categorical data in a line chart as though it were a trend.
