How does AI interpret poetry?
I’ve been playing with Storied for writing assistance and found that it summarizes ideas concisely. This made me wondered “what would happen if it you feed it poetry which is already brilliantly pithy?”
1) Start a topic: I found the poem online and read it to Storied
It produces the “Cliff Notes” or general abstract summary:
“The main idea of the transcript is about maintaining composure and integrity in the face of adversity and challenges.”
2) Collect Ideas: I skipped the step where I could have Storied prompt me to expand the narrative by providing questions.
3)Get your first draft: I selected a medium length draft to transition the audio into a written document. It breaks the poem into 9 sections with Bold Headers which label the key theme of each section.
I didn’t do a word count of the poem, but it looks about 30-40% longer than the original. Much of the power and emotional significance of the poem is lost, but some of the phrasing persists in the written draft and it is easier to visually scan and interpret.
I am so excited to see how they continue to develop the functionality of this application. Just as everyone faces injustice and challenges in their life, everyone I know finds writing and communication difficult.
