I’m working with a guy who is leagues better than me at SQL right now.
I know things about ML he hasn’t been exposed to.
We have really complementary skills but many overlapping skills too.
I look at some 20+ slice pie charts he’s built and cringe and I probably don’t know all the things he silently judging me for as we work.
I don’t care.
It’s phenomenal to work together.
We have minimized documentation needs by live coding sessions. We work well synchronously and across times zones in Teams.
For me this is flow state and pure joy at work. We can rapidly prototype and debug. We can teach each other methods and tools as we go. Ego is minimal and output is maximal.
It’s easy to think you want candid feedback to get better at what you do, but in the moment it can be hard to live up to that ideal. The secret is mutual respect.
