Future Proof
Years ago when I went to Argentina on a project for 3M I got to work in their office on a canal in a new construction area of Buenos Aires. Much of the city has European style buildings that are well over 100 years old. I read a bunch of the economic history of international…

There ARE ‘stupid’ questions
‘Stupid’ questions are inappropriate or irrelevant queries that sidetrack discussions, diminish the questioner’s image, and/or raise doubts about their competency. You may be asking a Stupid question if:– You’re asking something that is considered base level domain knowledge in your field.– You’re offloading research to someone else out of sheer laziness.– The topic was just…

Our car got stolen.
I blame broken habit stacking. Let me start by mourning my 2012 stick shift Ford Ranger, which I sold because it didn’t have a safe place for a car seat. Matt’s car from work is a Ford Edge with push button start. It was the first car I drove after 20 years of cars that…

Playing with Dataiku for Maven Analytics LEGO Challenge
I haven’t participated in a Maven Challenge since the Family Leave data was published around a year ago. LEGO toys are such a fun topic and the single csv file lends itself well to practicing price prediction and clustering so I’m working on an entry for this new challenge: https://lnkd.in/gzGA9NqC Below are links to the exploratory…

Mad respect
Last week I was at the playground with my daughter and there was a guy “fly fishing” in the lawn behind the jungle gym. Out of respect I did not photograph him, but I did find the scene inspiring. The Palo Alto park fisherman had two flags marking the width of his cast zone and…

Forget Python, start learning LCEL!
Low/No Code tool & learning programing languages I’m mostly kidding, but with the proliferation of Low/No code tools, near real time translation software and the incredible strides in semantic language querying it begs the question of if learning a new language (code or spoken) is worth your time? Lang Chain Expression Language (LCEL) is the…

Should Mario be in charge of your Pricing Analytics?Check out this waterfall chart in the style of the Mario Bros video game from Visualistics on Tableau Public!
Image Credit: Visualistics I just re-found it when I was going back through my old writing and trying to consolidate it on either WordPress or Substack. I don’t use my website like an ecommerce platform, just a blog repository so I was thinking of transitioning. I had a blog almost 10 years ago when I…

I’m less interested in “Generative” AI than I am in knowledge graphs, operationalized ontologies, vector databases and document retrieval systems.
I think a lot of people care more about these use cases than image generation or having a system that writes for them. OCR and making unstructured data usable in more traditional analytics frameworks is fascinating to me. It doesn’t suffer nearly as much from the hallucinations and black box hidden logic and “reasoning” issues…

Teal Product Review & WARNING!!!
TLDR: Useful tool for organization, but don’t use the AI writing feature to write your accomplishment bullets!! For roughly the first time since 2017 I decided to try and completely revamp my CV. For consulting I use a bio slide in my proposals and work mainly from referrals so I haven’t maintained an up to…

Open AI – Leaving revenue on the table with this role
Deal Desk Manager has low salary for the area & not a strategic position For a company raising $7 trillion dollars in a place a family needs $500k a year to afford a small 2br 1ba house, you’d think they’d pay more for a role which evaluated the revenue stream. I asked ChatGPT (the LLM…
